Liverpool Street to Norwich

We are in the cab of Anglia Railways Class 9709 with a Class 86 at the rear providing the power. At times the Class 86 would not respond well to the driver’s controls and jolt the train and our camera equipment in the cab!

We depart from London’s Liverpool Street Station at 08.31 and look forward to arrival at Norwich at 10.38. Look out for a number of other classes en route such as 47s, EMUs and 66s and some Docklands Light Railway services.

On our journey out of London we pass over no less than 24 junctions and crossovers and pass through 20 stations before our first stop at Ingatestone.

Our second stop is at Colchester followed by Manningtree and Ipswich. Our journey progresses into Norfolk and to Diss our next stop before arriving at Norwich.

This Cab Ride was recorded from the cab of an Anglia Railways Class 150 departing from Norwich at 11.50 on 20th August 2001.

The journey takes us from Platform 5 at Norwich where we also view Class 67s and 90s. We pass through Brundall Gardens before stopping at Brundall Station and progressing towards Brundall Junction where the signalman has stopped our train with a red flag. A gardener was trimming his hedge close to the line and so our driver had to watch out!

We continue our journey to Linwood and then Acle where we join the single line to Great Yarmouth. A quick change of ends and our train departs for Norwich for arrival at 12.58

Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Norwich to Sheringham via Cromer and Return in 2001

Cab Rides Around the British Isles: Norwich to Sheringham via Cromer and Return in 2001

CATALOG SUSPENDED

Ref: KF271D

Price:£17.95

Our cab ride was recorded from the cab of an Anglia Railways Sprinter 150257 on 13th August 2001 departing from Norwich at 11.53 and bound for Sheringham.

At Thorpe Junction we take the route towards Lowestoft and at Whittingham Junction we progress on to the ‘Bittern Line’.

We pass through Salhouse and then stop at Hoveton and Wroxham before taking the single line to Cromer.

We see the narrow gauge Bure Valley Railway and our driver sounds the horn to acknowledge a steam locomotive in view.

Our next station is Worsted followed by North Walsham where a Class 66 is in the oil terminal there. Next we run through Gunton and Roughton Road before arriving at the terminus of Cromer.

Our driver changes ends so that our service can proceed to Sheringham. At the stop blocks we can see the preserved North Norfolk Railway which was once connected across the road here. The link has since been reinstated so that trains can pass between Sheringham and Cromer once more on an occasional basis. We retrace our footsteps and return to Norwich.

Our driver was Sarah Swanston, one of the first female drivers in the Anglian region.
