This programme covers visits made by Alan Beard to Turkey in the early 1 980s and begins with operations on the former Smyrna-Cassaba and Ottoman main lines out of Izmir These routes were dominated by the wartime 'Kriegsloks' and 57001 class 2-1O-2s. We then take a look at the network of branches built by the Ottoman Railway to the south-east of Izmir and which became the last stamping ground for the elderly Prussian G8 type 0-8-Os working quaint mixed trains.

Moving eastwards, more 2-10-2s are seen at Afyon before following a mixed train westwards along the Smyrna-Cassaba route. For the latter part of the journey a 'Kriegslok' double heads a GlO type 0-10-0. The pro granime concludes with a look at the splendid Henschel 2-8-2s working over the Konya-Afyon line.

With informative commentary and some 'live' sound taken from the original 8mm movie film, plus some dubbed sound. Mastered on professional equipment.

The splendid 56001 class 2-10-Os are seen both singly and double-headed on enormous freights between Erzincan and Erzurum, including several views taken in the remarkable Euphrates Gorge. A solitary 'Kriegslok' 2-10-0 is also seen on this section while another 8F performs at Erzincan and a Prussian G8 0-8-0 is yard shunter at Erzurum. The programme concludes with a 'Middle East' 2-8-2 working out of Elazig towards Tatvan and several other steam classes are briefly seen along the way.

This volume recalls the days when steam traction could be found in every country in Europe. Our travels take us to the mountains of Austria, the meadows of Ireland and the pine forests of Finland. A great many different classes of locomotives are seen, mostly in normal service with the original footage being mainly taken in the 1960s.

Beginning on the famous Vordernberg to Eisenerz rack railway in Austria, we progress to the nearby Donaeitz steelworks and then to West Germany where DB and industrial locomotives can be seen hard at work.

Two Irish railtours of 1961 and 1964 come next. Blue 4-4-0s and other types are seen both on the tour trains and in normal service on the CIE and UTA.

Finally we visit Denmark, Sweden and Finland in the very early 1960s. The footage of locomotives in normal service is especially rare, particularly so in Sweden.

This volume recalls the days when steam traction could be found in every country in Europe. Our travels take us from the plains of Poland to the heat of the Mediterranean. A great many different classes of locomotives are seen, mostly in normal service between the early 1960s and early 1980s.

We begin in Poland where we see freight and passenger classes in profusion while an equally steamy East Germany reveals numerous Pacifics and other types still in service during a late 1970s visit.

In France the final days of steam on the Paris Nord and Bastille suburban workings are witnessed before we head into Switzerland for a brief look at a steam excursion on the Waldenburgerbahn near Basle,

We next visit Italy where conventional and Crosti-boilered locos are seen at hard at work and, finally, we visit Greece to join a steam tour.

Featuring scenes on the Western and Southern Regions of British Railways mainly between 1962 and 1964.
Beginning in Wales we make journeys from Carmarthen to Aberystwyth, Swansea Victoria to Craven Arms, Three Cocks to Moat Lane and Aberdare to Pontypool, all behind steam power.

Wherever we go, we observe abundant evidence that this was still a steam railway with stations and infrastructure largely intact.

Moving into England, expresses and local services around Gloucester and Cheltenham are seen before the cuts of the 1960s.

A detailed look at the Somerset and Dorset main line is followed by scenes on the delightful Hemyock branch and the programme concludes with views around Lymington and Swanage.
